Property Description
Remote Alaskan Cabin, Comfortable Year-Round Off-Grid Living with Private Airstrip, $310,000
The cabin on Cub Lake is only accessible by bush plane in the summer. In the winter, the cabin can be accessed by snow machine or bush plane on skis, making it about as private as one can get. Located 3 miles from the Yentna River and 30 miles from Willow as the crow flies, nobody EVER just happens by, but it is just a quick flight to town if needed. Landings can be made with wheels on the 550-foot strip or on floats/skis on Cub Lake. There is also a bigger lake within walking distance for larger airplanes.
The south facing lake-front cabin with two bedrooms and one bathroom sits on 11.67 acres and has a water well and septic. Built around 1994, it is powered by new solar panels with an upgraded battery bank. Generators are used for supplemental power when needed. There is also a small dry guest cabin with a twin bunk bed and a 31x15 foot shop with attic, various tools included.
The two-story house was well-built with bears and snow in mind. There is a room on the front of the house that opens to the west side with a garage door. This room is used to store firewood, eleven 100 lb. propane bottles, and two freezers. On the first floor of the cabin, there is a spare bedroom, a work room, the utility room, a pantry, and the cold storage. The Blaze King stove is located in the utility room, along with the washing machine and the on-demand water heater. There is also a Toyo stove for supplemental heat.
The kitchen, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, and main living area are located upstairs with a front porch that has a beautiful view of Cub Lake and the Alaskan Range. An arctic entrance is located at the rear of the house which provides added storage and an area for the battery bank. Much of the interior of the upstairs has been updated. The exterior of the house was painted recently and a new metal roof was installed this summer.
The fishing, hunting, gardening, trapping, and opportunities for foraging make this a prepper's paradise. This plot is surrounded by state land and is located in Hunting Game Unit 16B, where moose and bear are commonly harvested. There is a green house, garden plot, and tiller ready for home-grown vegetables. Also on the property, there are established rhubarb plants, raspberry stalks, and wild strawberries. Huckleberries and other wild berries are plentiful. A chicken coop is ready for meat birds or layers.
Summers are sublime at the cabin on Cub Lake. There is a canoe, a kayak, and a small aluminum boat with a motor for fun in the lake. The new zero-turn lawn mower makes doing lawn work most enjoyable. There are plenty of trails for the Honda 4-wheeler and the Arctic Cat side-by-side, or you can make your own. There is no way to list all of the activities to do on this property during the abundant daylight, but the best summer activity, by far, is watching the wildlife from the front porch.
Winters are just as fun! In fact, the Iditarod Trail is just a few miles away. Both the Iditarod and the Iron Dog Race can be experienced with just a short snow machine trip to the river. A 2014 Ski-Doo Super Wide Track will stay with the property. It is essential for hauling freight the 55-miles from Deshka Landing. The Northern Lights are often seen in the winter, as well.
Concerned about staying warm? There are 5 diesel tanks on the property that can store enough heating oil to last several years. There is also a fuel shed with a 300-gallon gasoline tank. Transfer pumps will stay. A 10-cord wood shed is located near the 30-ton wood splitter.
Need to work from home? Current owners use satellite internet and Verizon cell service with a booster. The cabin at Cub Lake has too many features to list, but comes fully furnished, ready for you to move in.
